About

Engineering Data Management (EDM) is an agile, web-based, and database-driven application designed for various types of chemical plants. Its purpose is to enhance data standardization, improve the availability of the latest documentation, increase the efficiency of engineering project development and execution, and facilitate compliance with safety regulations and test protocols. EDM provides a single source of truth and gives customers greater control over engineering project progression and execution.

The development of EDM began over 10 years ago when Polaris’ Managing Director, Jan-Peter Lourens, encountered multiple issues with data availability and inconsistencies caused by managing data across various sources and multiple Excel sheets. In response, he sought to create more efficient and transparent work processes. By developing EDM, he was able to save time, avoid delays, and achieve more significant results with less effort.

This was achieved in two ways. Firstly, by integrating multiple databases onto one platform, all relevant data is now available in a transparent manner at a single location. Secondly, an agile action management module was developed that can be applied to any engineering project.

EDM’s sister company Polaris Engineering employs EDM for all engineering projects, and as a result, has been successful in executing projects with greater efficiency. We are committed to sharing this application with the wider engineering community to enhance transparency and efficiency.

The EDM team is aware that each plant has its specific requirements and needs. Combining our expertise in both engineering and IT, and our customer-oriented approach, our objective is to provide each customer with a customized application that meets their specific needs and requirements. EDM is entirely customer-driven, and our team works with the customer to study and discuss specific wishes, needs, and requirements to configure EDM.

Our vision is to enhance data documentation across all departments and disciplines of every plant, thereby improving production, minimizing delays, and reducing incidents throughout the plant life cycle.
